About
Many businesses use PET when creating bottles and containers which is why being able to laser engrave this material opens up opportunities for producing some excellent products.
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a material commonly used in plastic bottles. It is used instead of other plastics as it is a 100% recyclable material which is highly sustainable making it perfect for reuse over and over again. in recent years it has become the most commonly used plastic for bottles over PVC which many businesses have moved away from due to its lack of sustainability and recyclability. PET is also a far more resistant material, it is better at keeping its content fresh for longer and it has a clearer surface for see through products, making it ideal for packaging.
Applications
When working with any plastic, correctly marking the material used is essential. Recyclable material often needs to be marked accurately so that it can be identified with information such as what material has been used, and how many times it has been previously recycled. For this system to work the mark needs to be permanent and resistant to wear and tear, another reason why PET is such a great option.
Personalisation is also one of the main reasons to use a laser with PET. Due to its resistant nature PET is perfect for personalised gifts such as bottles and cups. the use of a laser means that more detailed and precise designs can be engraved into the gift, ensuring a permanent mark without damaging the material itself
ABOUT
If you were to engrave into PET with a fiber or a CO2 laser, there is a chance that the material with become damaged by the heat, possibly melting and therefore releasing dangerous fumes after the engraving is complete. This is why a UV laser is used. UV lasers do not use heat to engrave into materials, instead using “cold processing” to create the mark. This allows for highly precise marks that are perfect for traceability and personalisation due to how clearly they stand out and the high speeds the laser can mark at.
MACHINE
Our Meta-C UV is the perfect solution to Mark PET, as mentioned before it will not cause any damage to the material it will instead use cold processing to mark onto PET without melting or warping the product at all.
