Timberland ™

The Customer

Timberland is a leading brand in the footwear industry, well known for their iconic yellow boots which are very durable and created with sustainability and eco-friendly initiatives in mind.

01

The Application

Timberland has an extremely recognisable brand with their iconic yellow boot being easy to identify, their boots appeal to people who want both fashionable footwear and reliable, durable boots making them a unique product being used by a diverse range of consumers.

The sides of the boots themselves are a great blank canvas for intricate designs and artwork, looking online you can see how many creative artists have implemented their own artwork onto the boots creating their own spin on the classic Timberland look.

02

The Problem

As part of the 2024 London Fashion Week, we were asked to mark 100 pairs of Timberland boots, a great opportunity to show the potential of our lasers in both the fashion and creative industries.

It is possible to mark leather using a CO2 laser, however the burning can create a HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) on this type of material. This charring around the marking is hard to clean up, ruining what should be a perfect quality mark to be to be shown off at London Fashion Week, plus the burning itself can cause a horrible smell to be given off by the leather material.

03

The Solution

Using our Meta-C UV, we were able to consistently create high quality markings on the sides and the tips of all 100 boots, creating a great design which enhanced the overall aesthetic of the boots.

For most laser systems, marking on certain areas of the boot could be a challenge, as the curved surface of the boot can cause the laser to go out of focus. However, the Meta-C is able to use its 3-Axis laser head to mark around the curve whilst maintaining precision and focus, delivering a crisp and flawless mark.

The marking process itself is also very fast, making it easy to mark all 100 boots in a swift and easy process.

The Result

Using a UV laser system makes marking complex designs easy; simply upload the design to the machine, tweak a few settings, line up the boots in the machine and press go!

This is a brilliant example of how laser engraving can be used in the fashion industry as a new method of creating unique designs and personalisation. By using laser engraving these designs will not fade or become damaged by daily wear and tear or being washed. The markings also do not have any charring that would be an effect created by a CO2 laser.
