So Karpas Engineering realised it was time to find the right laser engraving solution, and having previously bought a Lotus Blu cutting machine, they knew where they needed to go. And when they came to the showroom, it was the 3D scanhead that drew them in.

“We had a little rotary device…and whenever you put something on it, it was wobbling. And then we came to the showroom and saw the 3D laser head and thought – I want one please!”

The 3D scanhead, which comes as standard in Meta-C and Meta-XY systems, means you can engrave across any curved surface, no matter the shape. The laser head itself adjust the focus along the contours – meaning you don’t need a rotary either.

It always feels like an easy decision to go with something cheaper. But cost is about more than what you pay – it’s about what your machine can bring back. And after years of losing products to a substandard laser – and (figuratively) losing hair from all the stress – Tom and Sophie realised the “saving” they made in the first place was quickly disappearing through their fingers.

But now? Their Lotus Meta-C has completely transformed how they run their laser engraving operation and given them the confidence to take on more contracts with faster turnarounds.

“About 800 parts came in this morning, and we know we can just stick them in, a hundred at a time, press go – and it’ll just work.

We’re in a dream enjoying ourselves with laser etching.”
