Coventry Engineering Group, renowned for the design and manufacture of precision components, specialised tooling and bespoke tool holding solutions. Based in the heart of the UK our manufacturing site uses the latest CNC turn/ mill and grinding technology. The organisation has existing relationships as part of its supply chain and customer database with small specialist workshops and blue chip companies as part of its existing portfolio offering and operates in the following sectors Aerospace, Defence, Machine Tools, Oil and Gas, Motorsport, Medical

The Application

“Historically we had a laser etcher which in its time was a good piece of kit, but as the control was based on Windows software and would not update past Win-XP along with the lack of availability of replacement parts and engineers which knew how to effect a service made our minds up the business needed a new piece of kit to ensure our ability to supply product to our customers

The brief for the machine was passed to a number of providers of such laser etching machines and included the need for Rotary Marking with a repeatable, flexible and quick to set up work holding solution, the weight of components being between 0.5kg and 30kg and some being long items difficult to etch horizontally.”

The Installation

“There were issues globally with regard to supply of electrical components but as a company we were kept in the loop constantly until the unit was ready for commissioning, and in the short term as our incumbent machine died, sub-contract etching was provided from Lotus lasers site in Basildon to support us through to completion of the project, the unit when delivered was pretty much plug-n-play with some training to use the bespoke features we had requested carried out on the day of installation.”

The Solution

“The machine we opted for was a bespoke unit, answering our requirement for a heavier duty rotating table with a large centre aperture capable of dropping in quick set tooling plates for dedicated product we manufacture, this reduces set up to minutes and just requires pulling up the program stored on the server and host PC

The laser being mounted horizontally rather than the normal vertical mounted devise gave the advantage of larger diameter work being etched and length not being an issue due to the height of the air operated interlocked door.”

The Result
