Lotus Lasers are OEM: A Bespoke Laser Source Makes a Premium Laser Mark

Every laser is made to our exact specification, and that matters for your production quality.

Most laser manufacturers find the cheapest laser source at the power and wavelength you need. This makes them inconsistent from machine to machine and unreliable to use if they’ve cut the wrong corners. But for Lotus, not a single component can shift from our exact design.

If the components inside your laser source are sub-standard, your laser marks will be too.

It also means you could two of the “same” machine, six months apart, and have a completely different laser source on each one, and get very different results on your engravings.

Lotus doesn’t work this way. Our lasers are all made to our exact (and very high) standard.

How does the rest of the industry do it?

When you buy a laser system, you’re typically buying two things: power and wavelength.

For example, you know you need a MOPA fiber laser because you’re engraving on metal, and that’s the best wavelength for that. And perhaps you need 60w of power for faster processing speeds.

But if these are the only two things your manufacturer considers when selling you the laser, they have a lot of latitude to sell you a poor quality laser source. As soon as a cheaper 60w MOPA fiber comes up, they’ll buy it – without thinking how that will affect the quality of the mark.

What makes Lotus Lasers different?

By specifying every single component that goes into our laser source, we’re ensuring a consistency of quality. There’s no switch, cable, diode or any other part of the laser source that can be swapped out for a cheaper alternative.

When you buy two laser machines from us, even if it’s a year apart, the quality between them is guaranteed to be consistent.

And if the examples of our laser marks show the premium quality you should expect from your laser system, you know it was done with the exact same source you’re about to buy.

Why do you do this if no one else does?

Firstly, because we don’t believe in compromising on a premium product. A laser system is an investment and changing components behind the scenes is not a shortcut worth taking. We’d rather provide you with the right laser solution.

But this started because of our own experiences. A previous laser supplier from many years ago changed some components in the laser source without our knowledge – until during our configuration & test process we got a lot of disappointing results.

As soon as we found out a component had been changed, we immediately switched to a specified, OEM manufacturing process. There’s no success in compromising on quality: there’s success in providing quality.

So what’s better about your lasers than other manufacturers?

It’s not just that the components are more consistent – they’re actually better. Our scanheads feature a beam expansion optic which makes the laser spot size (the physical laser dot marking the product) 40% smaller than other machines in the industry.

Such a granular level of control with our MOPA Fiber sources is what means we can provide the 17 waveforms of power flexibility: you can mark everything from ABS to titanium on one machine because we made the laser ready to do so.

And we truly understand the construction of every part of our lasers, which makes support and maintenance a much clearer process – and one in which we can identify and fix issues quickly. We understand our lasers, and so we can optimise them.
